The gathering

The Gathering was a Residency for Research and Collaboration in the Performing arts that brought together eight international artists who first met at the DanceWEB Scholarship Program 2012 (Impulstanz - Vienna International Festival). The residency took place at O espaço do tempo (Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal) between the 26th September and the 6th October 2013 and had the support of Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

The main purpose of this residency was to provide a meeting space in order to promote an open dialogue, experimentation and peer learning through the sharing of practices, methodologies, concepts and concerns in a constructive collaborative atmosphere, which would not depend on a final result and that would be protected from the usual market pressures.

The desire to inscribe this meeting relates to the need to foster ephemeral experiences that make part of any artistic process, without claiming to document the residency as a whole, but with the ambition to extend the possibilities of the material that was generated during that period and also share some reverberations that came from there. The idea is to achieve an object that reflects the experience, favors the diversity of discourses, suggesting various possibilities of articulation and communication to a wider context.
